Our curriculum

Welcome to TKFTA! Taoist Kung Fu Training Academy.

Classes at the TKFTA vary from day to day. However there are multiple practices that are incorporated regularly such as: strength training, stretching, basics, stances, sparring, drills, forms (katas) breathing exercises and meditation.

Typically progression in ranks occurs when a student meets the form (kata) requirements shown in the rank diagram. However, everyone’s needs and capabilities vary and knowing the forms is not the only requirement to progress to the next belt rank.

Mu Dong/ Wudang Kung fu is rooted in Taoism, a popular philosophy in Chinese history that is founded on the idea of balance within your life (Yin-Yang). By combining hard/soft, fast/slow, Internal/external into your daily practice, you can better yourself in all facts of life possible.

“See the Action”

You learn the forms to understand the action the master sees. Make sure that the posturing is correct and can withstand pressure of the move.

In theory, if you understand both sides of the form, each time you do one it’s like a real fight. However you must have the right amount of energy in each movement in order to execute the action you see, whether it be the pushing, shoving, lifting, punching, kicking, etc.
